TECHNICIAN DEVELOPMENT
CMT Institute training is being developed to help construction materials technicians understand the work, build technical competence, and progress through their careers. The emphasis is practical: knowing what a result means, documenting it clearly, communicating effectively, and recognizing when something needs another look.
Procedures matter. Understanding why they matter—and applying them with field judgment and professionalism—is the foundation of technician development.
Curriculum in development
Technician development pathway
A planned progression from the first days on the job to continued development and future competency training.

Programs in development
Three program areas are being developed. The descriptions below explain their intended purpose; they are not currently available courses.
In Development
CMT 101 — First 30 Days
A structured starting point for new technicians. The planned curriculum will connect basic technical understanding with field responsibilities, careful documentation, communication, and professional habits during the first month of a technician’s career.
In Development
Technician Development — Years 1–2
A planned path for technicians building experience beyond initial onboarding. The focus will be understanding test results, recognizing questionable data, troubleshooting, documenting the work, and communicating observations with sound field judgment.
In Development
ACI / ATTI Readiness Prep
Planned readiness preparation to help technicians identify strengths and knowledge gaps before industry certification testing. It is intended to support preparation and readiness assessment; it does not award industry certification or guarantee examination passage.
How the training will work
The planned delivery approach will connect online learning with practical application. These elements are part of the development concept and are not yet complete.
Online learning modules
Build understanding of the work and the reasoning behind procedures.
Practical scenarios
Explore decisions technicians may encounter in the field.
Knowledge checks
Help learners identify what they understand and what needs review.
Final or readiness assessment
Assess understanding or preparation, according to the program’s purpose.
Downloadable/reference resources
Support continued learning and provide references for the work.
Development status
CMT Institute’s technician-development curriculum is currently being developed. The pathway and program areas describe the intended direction of the product line. Course content, assessments, and resources are still taking shape; courses are not currently available for enrollment.
